Thoughts on Caravan Parks

A recreational vehicle park (RV park) or caravan park is where owners of RVs can stay overnight or longer in allocated spaces called pitches or sites.

In Australia, caravan park refers to both terms, RV park and trailer park. The terms, RV park and trailer park, are never used and may not be understood by Australians. However, use of holiday park is increasingly common.

In Europe, caravan sites have various facilities depending on their age. Newer sites are designed to high eco-friendly standards, having facilities that are compatible with the latest vehicles. Europe, specifically the United Kingdom, is famous for long-running clubs consisting of dedicated RV campers. In other European regions, there is a large network of dedicated stop-over sites for motor homes called Reisemobil-Stellplatz in German or Aire de Camping-car in French.

In New Zealand, caravan park refers to vehicle-based camping that lasts overnight or long-term. In North America, RV park is commonly used.

Some caravan parks have rustic facilities and rudimentary structures offering no or limited utility hook-ups, while others have amenities that rival high-star hotels. People park in specific locations for different reasons: saving money, more choices, isolation, privacy, adventure, more self-sufficiency, etc.
